Starting Sensipar® earlier helped more dialysis patients achieve parathyroid hormone (PTH) treatment goal1,2
Phase 3 results from three 6-month, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical studies conducted in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism on dialysis (N = 1,136) showed that initiating Sensipar® at iPTH 300 to 500 pg/mL in addition to traditional therapy enabled 81% of patients to achieve PTH treatment goal. The same study showed that initiating Sensipar® later at iPTH > 800 pg/mL enabled only 22% of patients to achieve PTH goal. However, at all starting levels of iPTH, patients in the Sensipar® group were more likely to achieve KDOQI™ goals for PTH than patients in the control group.1
In these studies, PTH goal was defined as mean iPTH ≤ 300 pg/mL. Traditional therapy included vitamin D and phosphate binders, if prescribed.1

Adding Sensipar® earlier allowed more dialysis patients to achieve PTH treatment goal than traditional therapy alone1,2,3
Using traditional therapy alone at iPTH 300 to 500 pg/mL allowed only 21% of patients to achieve the PTH treatment goal. When Sensipar® was added to traditional therapy in patients at the same iPTH level, 81% of patients achieved PTH goal. Goal was defined as mean iPTH ≤300 pg/mL. Traditional therapy included vitamin D and phosphate binders, if prescribed.1
